The Marquise Shape

Gaining popularity in the 1970s and 1980s, the marquise is an elongated, elliptical brilliant cut with curved sides and pointed ends. The marquise, also called a “navette” from the Latin for ship, lost traction in the 1990s to the increasingly popular princess cut.

Brilliant cut diamonds have triangular and kite shaped facets that radiate from a diamond’s center outwards. This brillianteering intensifies a diamond’s fire, scintillation, and brilliance giving the stone “life.”
